Overview

The UK’s land use landscape in 2025 is undergoing significant transformation, with reforms aimed at streamlining the planning process, supporting sustainable growth, and addressing environmental priorities. Key initiatives include a revised National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), proposals for more localised planning authority through leaner committee systems, and an increased emphasis on regional spatial strategies. The Planning and Infrastructure Bill 2025 is set to play a pivotal role, accelerating development on brownfield land and boosting the pace of housing and major infrastructure delivery.

These developments highlight a broader transformation in UK land use, emphasising a more strategic, efficient, and sustainability-driven framework. The shift aims to align housing and infrastructure growth with environmental stewardship and community well-being, marking a new era in planning policy that balances progress with protection.

The Landmark Chambers’ annual Land Use Conference aims to pick out some of the key changes and challenges facing the sector. Drawing on the cross-disciplinary expertise of our barristers, the conference will offer a rich programme of keynote presentations and interactive breakout sessions. These sessions are designed to give attendees the opportunity to explore and discuss key issues in planning, public, and environmental law based on their professional focus.
